3D fractal bloom generated using Apophysis 2.08 3D. Gradient backdrop designed in Adobe Photoshop. The moon flower was generated using Gaussian blur, julian, waves2, and cross transforms with the help of the Apophysis 3D Blooms Tutorial. Essentially, the bloom (flower) is modeled as a basic hemisphere and deformed primarily through the use of julian and cross transform variations.
I had originally settled with the following render…
…but wasn’t fully satisfied because I felt the petals were overly defined, similar to the drawing style used in most cartooning. The final version of the moon flower uses the waves2 transform variation to eliminate the overly defined edges of the petals. I think this is an improvement over the original.
