The double spiral fractal was inspired by the spiral structure and coloring of the black dahlia flower. It is a 3D fractal generated using Apophysis 2.08 (3D Hack). The basic spiral bloom was generated using 3 individual transforms utilizing the following variations: (1) linear, cross, Epispiral, spherical, (2) Gaussian blur, and (3) julian, zscale, and zcone (Final Transform). The important difference between the flower bloom and the spiral bloom is the placement of the transforms relative to one another. In this case, the transform (1) that generates the basic shape segments is placed below and rotated away from the final transform (3) that generates the overall shape of the bloom.
The texture of the spiral was generated by adding small amounts (between values of +/- 0.1 and 0.005) of rings2, cross2, separation, split, and splits transform variations. Gamma was reduced to enhance shadowing and Symmetry was adjusted to 1 to increase color range. Post_depth and sineblur transformation variations were used in an additional Final Transform (+FX) to improve depth of field.
